John Paul II Award
I am filled with excitement and anticipation as I look forward to attending the prestigious award ceremony of the inaugural edition of the John Paul II Award later this week. This event promises to be a momentous occasion, celebrating the life and legacy of one of the most beloved and influential figures in modern history.
The John Paul II Award honors individuals who exemplify the virtues and values championed by Pope John Paul II during his pontificate. His unwavering commitment to peace, justice, and compassion has inspired countless individuals around the world to strive for a better, more humane society.
I am eager to witness the recognition of John Paul II Justice and Peace Center Uganda our partners in climate action who have over the years dedicated themselves to making a positive impact on their communities and beyond. Their tireless efforts to embody the teachings of Pope John Paul II serve as a shining example of what it means to live a life of service, love, and faith.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this meaningful ceremony, where we will come together to celebrate this achievement that upholds the values and principles that Pope John Paul II held dear. I am certain that this event will be an inspiring and uplifting experience, one that will leave a lasting impression on all who attend.
The period of John Paul II’s papacy – from 1978 to 2005 – witnessed an unprecedented level of concern for the environment. Longstanding problems, such as pollution, endangered species, overfishing, and deforestation, continued to worsen.
Moreover, the new challenge of global climate change became apparent, leading to the formation of the International Panel on Climate Change in 1988 and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1992.
By this, I am reminded of the profound impact that one individual can have on the world. May we all be inspired to follow in the footsteps of Pope John Paul II and strive to make a difference in the lives of others, just as he did throughout his remarkable life as we celebrate Pentecost.

May we open our hearts with Love to receive the Holy Spirit of Love, Justice, and Peace
