Faith & Work
Ora et labora “Work and pray”
At vero eos et accusamus et iusto odio dignissimos ducimus qui blanditiis praesentium voluptatum deleniti.

In my novitiate class, this phrase was at the heart of each one of us. I recently visited Monastero San Benedetto, Sacro Speco in Subiaco -Italy at first site, I saw this very inscription at the entrance of the monastery.

Ora et labora “Work and pray” is a famous phrase coined by St. Benedict that emphasizes the importance of balancing spiritual devotion with hard work. This message is very important for us today. It pauses a challenge to each one of us that life is not about sitting and watching life change or faith should not stop us from working but help us grow spiritually by promoting a deeper sense of connection between work and prayer.

In a society that values productivity and success above all else, it can be easy to forget the importance of taking time to reflect and connect with our inner selves. By incorporating the principles of “Ora et labora” into our daily lives, we can strive for a more balanced and fulfilling existence.

By setting aside time for prayer, meditation, or simply quiet reflection, we can nurture our spiritual well-being and find a sense of peace and purpose amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life. At the same time, dedicating ourselves wholeheartedly to our work allows us to achieve our goals and make a positive impact on the world around us.

Ultimately, the message of “Ora et labora” serves as a timeless reminder that true fulfillment comes from finding harmony between our spiritual and physical pursuits. By embracing this philosophy, we can lead more meaningful and intentional lives in the modern age.
